How do I fix my iPhone 12 Pro Max showing as"No internet connection"?

In the recent days, my iPhone 12 pro max displays a message on the screen "No Internet Connection" while it is connected to the WiFi and has some connectivity (very slow to launch website but it launches them after a few seconds).

iOS: 18.2

I have tried everything that I could think of:

  1. turn on/off airplane mode
  2. shutdown the phone and turn it back on
  3. I tried 4 difference networks: 2 of them are 5G and 2 of them are 2.4G
  4. I reset the Network settings and re-configured the WiFi network (Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> reset network settings)
  5. step 3, then step 2
  6. connected to an another device hotspot
  7. removed apps and VPNs settings
  8. turned off cellular data and connect the WiFi -> I have connectivity, I check with speedtest and also enter a few website that I don't use so often, but still some things don't work (for example: software update: Unable to check for update. checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the internet).

The only thing left to try is a full phone reset, but I'd rather not.

I have no idea what to do to find what is the root cause.

Any help would be appreciated.

In addition to lobsterghost1 recommendations, you’ll want to reset your network settings after deleting VPN files, app, etc.

If your iPhone or iPad won't connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support

>>Reset your network settings

If you're using iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If you're using iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

the list is not the sequence of steps I did.

It is a list of what I tried.

After I removed the VPN, I restarted the device.

After I reset the network settings back to default, I restarted the device.

I didn't want to describe everything I tried in details, because it would triple the size of the description of what I tried.

if we focus on the I tried first:

  1. airplane mode
  2. shutdown the device
  3. remove the known WiFi networks and re-configure them
  4. remove the VPN settings and shutdown the device
  5. reset the network settings and shutdown the device
  6. connect to a hotspot

I think I found the root cause of the issue.

Introduction: I have been owning the device for about 4 years. From very first day, I have been using the app 1.1.1.1 to route the entire device through CloudFlare's DNS server. The app achieves this by installing a VPN that controls all the traffic. I work for a company another VPN secure communication for and Teams which are used workspace applications. Until a few days ago everything was working smoothly no issues.

I removed the work VPN and deleted a bunch of apps a few days ago, as the VPN was making my device sluggish.

Since then, the issues started as I mentioned in the first post. I reinstalled the 1.1.1.1 app, but it's still not working. hence, I'm guessing that there is a compatibility issues with 1.1.1.1 app and the new iOS 18.2.

Problem solved by removing of CloudFlare DNS app.
