RCS Text Strand wont hide or silence alerts

Iphone 16 Pro / 18.2.

Ever since upgrading to IOS 18 I have a text strand that has 4 people in it, 3 iPhones users and one android user. The text strand says RCS Text Message and will not silence. All messages still alert me, all notifications show up on my front screen. It's beyond annoying since I have most text threads muted. I have attempted to delete the thread, reboot phone, tun hide alerts on and off nothing works.

Apple, Can we please get this fixed? I mute all my group chats so my phone doesn’t buzz all day. But this is making it very annoying to text with anyone who has an android.

Yes this is an issue with iOS and I have had the exact same experience. The day Apple implemented RCS is when ‘Hide Alerts’ stopped working in group chats with iOS and Android users that say RCS. Specifically when I disable and reenable Hide Alerts they stay silenced until an Android user sends a text. After that all messages in the chat resume normal notifications.

The notifications/alerts for these RCS mixed device chats show up even with Personal Focus turned on while no other text notifications do, only DND Focus works to silence these alerts (along with all other notifications).

very surprising for Apple to have missed such a basic testing scenario but either way this needs fixed in the next update.

It is aggravating! I made a workaround that makes this issue less annoying. Create a focus mode only for text notifications for specific people in the group chats that are affected by this bug. The caveat is that you don't get any notifications from these people, in other groups or individually so for some this might not work. For me this workaround is better than full DND mode but some notifications still get through.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
