iOS 18.2 Photo App Crash and Freeze on iPhone 16 Pro

I have noticed this behaviour after the latest update to 18.2. The photo app doesn’t open - it stays on a blank screen and then crashes. So, any app that needs access to photos also freezes while selecting photos or any photo operation. I also started using Final Cut Camera to film extremely short videos - not sure if this is relevant but thought it is worth mentioning.

Did a complete reset and the problem still exists. The support engineer has told me to take it to a apple store.

Occam's Razor would disagree. Given 14 years of iPhones and 16 different versions with none ever having the same issue, logic dictates that the update is the issue. Timing of the issue appearing also is a giant red arrow pointing to an issue with the update. Disagree all you want, but lately apple has been well documented for releasing updates that aren't ready for mass release and cause issues to core functions. So either you're not paying attention or you're looking for an argument, either way it's not conductive to a solution and therefore unnecessary.

Same issue. When opening a photo to edit the app sometimes is unresponsive or crashes altogether.

Yesterday I opened the app and opened a photo and the phone went black and rebooted completely.

I've had multiple hangups on other apps as well, generally seems to be photo or video display related.

16 pro max 1TB.

Image playground crashes the app too.

Since the photos features and intelligence are the marquee features on this new phone and OS I would think apple would have tested these things better before selling us 1600 dollar phones that don't do what they are advertised to do. Very frustrating waiting for a fix for the update that was supposed to fix the issues already there.

No, logic doesn't dictate that at all. Two things that happen at the same time do not necessarily have a causal relationship. And in this case, if it was the update, why isn't everyone's Photo app crashing? Logic would dictate that if it's the update, it would happen to everyone, right?

If you actually want to troubleshoot the issue rather than complain about it, you'll have to approach the problem with an open mind. If you just want to complain.... well, everyone needs a hobby.

Your superfluous comment would be less superfluous, ergo more easy to assimilate and appreciate, if you were trying to offer assistance and not criticizing without adding any value to the conversation.

If you make the assumption (and that's all it is) that the problem is the result of the update, you are limiting your ability to troubleshoot effectively.

IdrisSeabright wrote: "Post hoc ergo proper hoc." I believe he's saying that just because one thing happened before another doesn't mean it was the cause." which was right on point. There must also be a Latin phrase for "saying it louder and more often doesn't make more true."

Another favorite is "Well, it's aways worked before!" which is what my father said just after his first heart attack.
