iPhone 15 Pro automatically adds images from messages to Photos library

My 15 pro suddenly (last 2 weeks?) automatically adds any photo I open that was attached to a message, regardless of the platform, to my photo library. I want to cancel this behavior, but have no idea what setting enables it. None of 18.2 Photos settings seem to apply. Any ideas?

The images now automatically getting uploaded to my photos library can originally have been attachments to email, message posts, Whatsapp posts, Messages posts, etc.

Is this happening in Apple's Messages app? This doesn't happen for me, unless I click on the little save box next to the picture.

If this is happening from some other app, you may need to restrict that app's access to Photos.

Since Steven Weinberg was at the University of Texas, and I did some stuff at the Super Collider, I met him several times.

I spent a few summers working at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, and when I first started there, people kept saying to me, "You know, we've got another physicist here named Richard Taylor." Of course, I met and talked with him a bit.

Later, when he won the Nobel Prize, I started getting lots of emails and invitations for radio interviews. I forwarded the emails to him, but I was disappointed that I never got his paycheck.
