Sold an Old iPad Instead of a New One: remote resolution needed

Hello everyone,

I’m facing a serious issue and would appreciate your advice.

On March 10, 2024, I purchased an iPad from an official store in Dubai. I specifically flew there from Belarus to buy a device with the M2 chip. However, today, December 15, I discovered that I was actually sold an iPad Pro 4th Generation with the outdated A12Z chip, which, as far as I know, should not have been sold since 2021. Essentially, I paid the full price for what I thought was a new device but ended up with an old model.

I still have the receipt, the box, and the serial number on the receipt matches the device itself. Clearly, I was misled and sold an outdated product at the price of a new one.

The problem is that I’m currently in Belarus, where I cannot contact Apple Support via chat or phone, as these options are not available here.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue remotely? Are there alternative ways to reach Apple Support or address this situation? Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Thank you in advance for any advice or help!

Apple Support will not be able to assist you with any purchases that you have made from a retail store in a different country. Your only hope is to seek assistance from the retailer that sold the iPad. Given the time elapsed, the prospect of obtaining remedy is remote.

Given your country of residence, your best option might be to sell the unwanted device locally - and use the proceeds towards purchase of the device that you prefer.

Apple Support, regardless of country, will not be able to help you with an issue regarding any sale from an independent reseller even if officially authorized. Your only recourse is back to the reseller from whom you purchased your iPad. If they refuse to respond and correct the problem, then other than filing a complaint with the consumer protection department of the UAE, then you're stuck. As previously suggested, your only options will be either to keep the iPad you have or, as painful it will be, or to sell the iPad you received and use the funds to purchase what you actually wanted.

Good luck.

I bought my iPad from an official retailer in Dubai Mall with an official receipt. I didn't know that there are different generations of iPad, but I told the seller that I needed an iPad pro with an m2 processor 11 inches. And they brought it to me and sold it at the price of an iPad pro m2 and only today I found out that they sold me two generations older at full price. Even if they don't return my money, I would like some kind of investigation into this matter, what if Apple is not in line and there is frequent fraud on the part of sellers. It is easy to prove this because I have a receipt that they sent me which states the price, date of purchase and serial number (which belongs to a fourth generation tablet that should not have been sold for 2 years already)

I wanted an iPad that would be updated for many years to come, but I received an iPad gen 4th at full price of m2 (Ipad gen 6th) which will soon have to be replaced.

I wrote to the email that I found on the receipt and reported the situation, but so far no one has answered me. I would like someone to conduct some kind of investigation into my situation and, if possible, compensate the cost and perhaps even thank me for pointing out such unscrupulous sellers who are ruining Apple's image.

Now I am in despair and do not know what to do, if there is a possibility to help me contact official Apple support I will be very grateful.

The Apple Support Community is a user-to-user technical forum. Contributors here are all end-users, just like you. Other than the site Moderators, Apple neither monitor nor participate here.

As such, there is nothing that anyone here can do to help you with your complaint. You will not reach Apple through these forums.

You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page - although, as I have already indicated, they are unlikely to be able to assist with any purchase made in a different country.

You can also initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

I'm not necessarily looking for help from Apple Support, most likely Apple probably has some special service that maybe deals with such cases, I just can't find it. This was the main reason to write here, maybe someone can help me tell me where I can send all my information so that everything can be checked.

In principle, I'm looking for some ways to show Apple what happened in my case. I'm interested in how exactly they will react and what they will do, because they have absolutely all the available information and they can check and confirm absolutely everything I say. And I would like to get at least some feedback on this case.

Important clarification: I made a mistake in the definitions and this is not retail, but an official Apple store. This is possibly a very important clarification.

I already wrote an email to the email address that was on the receipt(dubaimall@apple.com) and have not yet received an answer and I'm afraid I will never receive one.

varjak paw, I made a mistake in the definition and I actually bought my tablet from the official Apple store in Dubai Mall.

I have tried to contact them via email and am waiting for at least some response.

I think I will wait about 48 hours before contacting the “consumer protection department of the UAE” Thank you very much for the link! But it will be very hard for me to explain my current situation to them, while Apple has all the detailed information and even the receipt says that I bought iPad pro 6 generation but the serial number in the same receipt is from iPad pro 4 generation and that I am not cheating.

LotusPilot, For now, yes. I am currently waiting for a response from dubaimall@apple. I have already been helped a lot by the link to the “consumer protection department of the UAE” and will contact there soon. It is also possible that there are people on the forum who have had a similar situation and maybe they will tell me what to do. In general, I will keep in touch with how the situation was resolved, so that other people in the future would understand how it can be resolved.
