Unable to proceed past 'update restrictions' screen when setting up child account

while setting up new iphone child account, i am stuck at 'update restrictions' screen. No response after clicking the both options ('update Restrictions" , "Turn off Restrictions"). I can only switch off, not able to go to next stage. Any help?

Same problem when setting up brand new iPad for child. I tried a hard restart multiple times. No luck. I logged in under my and updated the software, logged out, tried to sign in with child account. Stuck again. I finally got it to work by doing this… I went to settings and signed out of my Apple ID on the new device. Instead of logging in as my child in settings I went to the App Store and logged in as my child and it worked. I went to settings and now it shows child logged in. This worked on 12/24/24 trying to get it set up for a Christmas present.


absolutely ridiculous that this is still an ongoing issue with so many threads about this for over a year…
