IOS 18 has added a feature to reminders that interferes with manually ordering reminders

Up until now if you pressed on a list item in reminders you could move it within the list. With ios 18 three different things can happen: 1) you will get a magnified insertion point, 2) you get a context menu or 3) you can move the item. More than 80% of the time I get one of the first two which is not what I want. Is there a way to reliably get 3? Although this was one of my favourite features of the app, I've given up on it out of frustration.

When you long-press a reminder to move it, slide it to the right to dismiss the popup menu. You’ll then be able to drop it where you want.

I'm seeing the zoom "oval" on other applications (Notes, Safari...) but, surprisingly, not in Reminders.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch and see what setting you are using. Mine is set as "Fast". I observe that if I set to "Slow", I do see the zoom "oval" in Reminders as well.

You might want to set yours to "Default".

Thank you for any help!

The “sliding to the right” is just trick to dismiss the pop-up menu. As soon as your finger is no longer on top of the popup menu, the popup menu will disappear and you’ll be able to move the reminder.

I’m not sure I understand the fact that the reminder disappeared. Were you able to move it? If so, where did you drop it?

I noticed the magnified insertion point (in the image below) after I upgraded my iphone 13 mini to ios 18.1.1. I now realize it occurs if I do a long press in Reminders, Notes, Pages and perhaps others. It presents a problem for me because I frequently reorder my lists manually with a long press but now 8 times out of 10 I get this unwanted magnification. Is there a way to turn it off or if not to get it under control? I didn't change any settings in accessibility with the upgrade and I haven't found anything in settings to control it. There is a cryptic reference on helenkeller.org to something that might be this, but no details.
