IOS 18 pasting URL in iMessage

When pasting URL into iMessage in iOS 18.1, I am unable to see the URL. Instead, I get a web page “preview card”. I’ve tried to disable that by inserting a period before pasting and then after, including spaces as well as without spaces, but still cannot get just the URL to show. Is there a way to restore that functionality?

I understand you wish to be able to see and/or edit a URL in a message before sending it. As you said, after pasting a URL into iMessage, iOS 18 now immediately converts the link to a preview card and obscures the URL. The functionality to edit or view the URL is no longer obvious, but it is still there. You can tap the preview card before sending the message. A menu will pop up and you can choose “Convert to Text Link”. You will then be able to see the URL in the body of the message and verify / modify it as needed. You can also convert it back to a preview card by selecting the URL text, tapping it, and select “Show Link Preview”.

To improve my understanding of the phenomenon, it would be highly beneficial if you could share a full screenshot (Do not crop it). Visual representations carry a greater impact than written descriptions.

Please remember that this is a public forum, so when attaching a screenshot, please avoid including any personal credentials such as IP addresses, card details, email IDs, Apple IDs, IMEI numbers, serial numbers, phone numbers, order IDs, or any identifiable location information if you are sharing a map.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

iMessage's URL preview functionality is a valuable addition that significantly improves user experience. By instantly displaying relevant information such as titles, descriptions, and images, users can quickly assess the content of a link before deciding whether to open it. This feature not only saves time but also helps users avoid potential scams or misleading content.
