iPod classic 4 (Monochrome) not connecting over USB

My iPod classic 4 can sync perfectly fine using firewire. However, when connected to my computer with usb, the iPod says "OK to disconnect" and my computer won't recognise it.

I should note that the drive is a little wonky, and I need to shake it sometimes to get it to load. I'm flash modding it soon anyway and ill see if that fixes it.

Turns out it wasn’t the drive. I flash modded it and calibrated the new battery and it’s still just ejecting itself whenever I plug it in with usb in disk mode and just charges when not in disk mode.
