iphone16ProMax - Camera not working and display flickering when wireless Apple CarPlay connected
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue [I tested in 2024 Honda CRV and 2024 Nissan Vehicle].
1. Turn on the Ignition. Just Keep the Vehicle in Park mode.
2. Wait for 16 Pro max to connect with apple wireless car play.
3.Open the Camera App
4.Swipe to Video or Cinematic mode
5. Immediately Iphone 16 Pro max display will start blinking ~2sec rate.
6.Try turn on the video recording in Video mode
7. Recording will exit within ~5 seconds without recording.
8. Try the same with cinematic mode and Front camera.
9. Same issue will be seen in Video, cinematic mode and Front camera.
10. But still camera works fine in Photo and Portrait mode.
11. This issue occurs only in Video mode.
12. This issue is seen in iOS version 18.0.1 and 18.1
Timelines:
1. I purchased the iPhone 16 Pro max from apple store on 10 Oct 2024. iOS version was 18.0.1.
2. I have noticed this Camera-Wireless CarPlay Issue on 19th October
3. Contacted the Apple customer care on 22 Oct. I didn’t get any proper answer for the issue. They ask me to contact local apple store. Apple customer care sent me a link to upload the issue videos. I
uploaded the same.
4.I visited the apple store on 22 oct and explained the issue. They are not sure whether it’s hardware or software issue. Also they said 18.1 software may fix this issue. Since the iphone is under 14 days return
period, they ask me use to return and get a replacement.
5. I returned the Iphone on 22 oct and purchased same color, same memory 16 Pro max on the same day.
6. After coming out of apple store just tested the issue and noticed the issue on the new iPhone as well. I thought it’s iOS 18.0.1 issue and waited for 18.1 release.
7. I just Update 18.1 Software somewhere around oct 28 or 29th. and noticed the same behavior. Looks like the issue is not resolved in 18.1 version as well.
8. I tested this scenario in different cars and one of friend 16 Pro max iPhone. I noticed the same issue my friend iPhone and other cars as well.
9.Contacted the customer care again, uploaded the new iPhone issue videos and visited the apple store again on 01 November 2024.
10. The apple store engineers run the diagnostic and confirm it’s not hardware issue.
11. Again, they are not sure when this issue will be addressed by apple. Also they advised
to return the phone if I like. I don’t want to return it again and again without knowing the exact issue.
I have spent lots of time for this issue and I am surprised that I am not getting any resolution for this issue. Not sure what to do next? Anyone facing similar camera- CarPlay issue in iphone 16 Pro max. Please advise.
