After iOS 18.1 incoming call notifications are very low on Airpods Pro 2

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and recently updated to iOS 18.1. However the incoming call notifications and also the ringtone volume are so low on Airpods Pro 2 that I can’t even tell someone is calling. Even if I try to volume up when Siri is announcing the caller, it doesn’t change anything. I have already tried restarting the phone and reparing the Airpods. I also have a pair of Airpods Pro (1st gen) and everything is fine with them. It seems like a firmware issue rather than hardware. Have you also experienced this issue after the update ?

I have the same issue.

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Headphone Accommodations, then turn off Headphone Accommodations.

If you did hearing test and you have turn on hearing aid, please turn it off too

then put your airpods into the case and put them on again.

it should help

This totally solve my "No incoming call notification" problem on my 14Plus and AirPod Pro 2 running 18.1.1 and 7B21

Apple replaced my Airpods Pro 2s twice(!) in the last two weeks and then sent me a replacement iPhone 13 ProMax(!) - all under warranty, mind you - to address this issue! Of course without any resolution because it's NOT a hardware issue at all.

I was actually on hold waiting for Apple support (for the tenth time in a month) to complain that the low volume problem still persists when I thought to google: "anyone have an issue with airpods having extremely low volume on incoming call notification?"

And lo and behold, YOU (not the Genius Bar or Customer Support) provided the solution!

Thank you Jackyiks!

this fix my issue with airpods pro. Now it announces the incoming call loud and clear. Thanks for this information. I went to apple genius bar with the issue. They couldn’t fix it and told me to wait for another update. Then, my iphone was running on ios18.1. I was waiting for 18.2 which didn’t fix my issue. But following the steps on this comment fix my issue.

Incoming calls and texts neither ring nor ping in AirPods Pro 2. Spent 5+ hours at Genius Bar and on the phone with Apple Care rep on two separate days. After exhausting all settings and resettings still no notification sounds. Early on I was told that the AirPods were engineered to not ring or ping. If true, I cannot imagine that Apple would produce a product for the hearing impaired that would not ring in the ear. Totally inconceivable. Did Apple not consult with any hearing impaired people? Hoping for a firmware update to correct this oversight soon.

On the positive side, I have been wearing hearing aids for over 25 years and the quality of the sound produced by the AirPods is by far the most natural. My wife is impressed also because our conversations are at a more normal volume with little repeating.

Still a problem for me. Updated to 18.1.1 and I am working with Apple at the senior advisor level. Apple ran diagnostics and collected data from my phone. The next step is sending it all to the engineers. Apple said to watch for software updates. Seems as though the advisors have tried everything that they can do at their level and it is an engineering problem. The senior advisors said they will get back to me if they come up with any possible solutions. Stay tuned.

I have tried (on my iPhone 16 with iOS 18.2) all suggestions up to Dec 23, 2024, but none could solve the same problem on my iPhone. What is interesting is: If I cancel the call on my iPhone (red hang-up button pressed) while Siri is still quietly speaking the announcement, the call is ended, but Siri immediately switches to normal loud speech (as it should) and finishes speaking her announcement (e.g. ...accept call?).
