27" iMac as External Monitor for new Mac Mini with a Luna Display

I had hoped to wait until the M4 Studio was released but my Intel iMac with a Core i9 is just frustratingly slow.

The new Mini looks like a pretty good deal so I am considering getting one instead of waiting for the Studio next summer. But I love my iMac 5K monitor.

I have done a bit of research and it looks like the Luna Display is my best bet to use it as an external monitor. I have never heard of this company so I am a bet weary. Has anyone else use it to convert their 5K iMac into an external display? I am guessing I am not the only 27" iMac buyer looking to upgrade and looking for solutions.

Luna Display is used apparently successfully by a number of people, but as Luna themselves say, it's not intended to be used for any highly demanding need such as high-motion content. If all you want the external display for is as a second monitor to show app pallets and such and you can either use Ethernet or have a very high quality Wi-Fi network, then Luna Display might be an acceptable solution. I would not recommend it as your primary monitor, though (and it can't be for getting the mini set up). You're likely to be disappointed.

I understand completely about your 5K display in your iMac. I also have a 5K iMac and am facing the same dilemma, but have decided that either I'll bite the bullet and pay the cost of an Apple Studio Display - unlikely - or I'll go with a 27" 4K monitor, any of which will be far more affordable.
