Missing text notifications from a specific contact on iPhone

I have one very important contact whose messages to me do not trigger any kind of notification - sound, buzz, anything. I need to be notified of messages from this contact. I don’t believe that I have intentionally silenced notifications from this person. I do receive notifications from this person if the text message is part of a stream that’s includes other contacts. Ideas?
