How to access Boot Menu on 2013 Mac Pro?

I have a 2013 Mac Pro (6,1) trash can. If I let it boot nromally I get the OS image fine on my HDMI monitor and it works fine. However if I hold down the OPTION key after hearing the startup chime I only get a black screen and no boot menu. It appears there is no HDMI signal if I hold down the OPTION key after hearing the dchime. ANy ideas?

Update to Mac OS 13.4.1 fails Hi, I just received the usual "we have an update to 13.4.1 to install" type message. I clicked to restart now to install it. Note, I am currently on 13.4.0. It starts the black screen with apple icon and message that computer will restart in a minute or so message. Then a minute or so later I get the following screen shot: I chose Update. Again it tries to run the update, black screen Apple icon etc. Then I get this SS: I select Start Up disk and then get this SS: I unencrypted my main HD with my password and the system boots back up into my normal environment. Mac won't boot up past log on screen Mac won't boot up past log on screen. I enter password. It sometimes boots to start screen but within 30 seconds reboots again back to log in or just turns off completely??

Single User Mode not working (at least not the way it used to do before Ventura) When I try to start up my iMac using Single User Mode (holding "Command + S" whilst booting), I get the usual white text scrolling over a black screen, but after a short while the cursor stops underneath a line saying "... Finished" and I'm unable to give any input (i.e. typing a command) using the keyboard. I have no other option but to reboot my iMac by pressing and holding the power button for several seconds. I was able to start up in Single User Mode without any issues before upgrading to macOS Ventura 13. Does anyone else have the same issue and has found a solution or workaround?

in order for startup 'snag keys' to be effective, they must be provided by a USB keyboard connected DIRECTLY to the chassis, not on a display or any other Hub, which come ready too late to be helpful.
