iOS stickers broken from 17.0.1 to now (18.0)

Stickers (particularly any custom stickers created from Photos app) do not appear in the sticker keyboard.

Bug:

Repro:

  1. In Photos app or in iMessages app from the keyboard, create a sticker from a photo. (Follow Apple's Official Instructions.)

Expected: sticker appears in sticker keyboard, can be sent in a message

Actual: if adding directly inside the keyboard in iMessages app, sticker appears for 1 second and then disappears. Unusable.

Affected versions: iOS 17.0.1 to iOS 18.0 (current).

History:

This problem has been publicly reported by thousands of users, has been publicly acknowledged by Apple Support. As of iOS 17.0.1 when this problem first appeared, Apple Support promised a quick fix. A few months later, they backtracked and said that engineering was still taking a look. Since then, Apple has completely overhauled the emoji / sticker keyboard UI, yet they have not deemed it necessary to fix the bug.

Okay, thanks for sharing. I've been in the tech industry for a decade, I'm well aware of how this forum works. I've opened multiple feedback tickets before. Apple fails to ever triage any of their user-filed tickets. (I have tickets open for 7+ years.) I have close family who are engineers at Apple as well. Their feature prioritization philosophy tends to rely on ad-hoc decisions, rather than some objective or subjective framework.

This is as opposed to Microsoft and Google, where I was a product manager for this past decade, and where I personally triaged plenty of feedback tickets.

There are already existing tickets for this issue. As you can see from my attached threads, Apple Support falsely promised to quickly resolve this regression, backpedaled and said their engineers were still looking, and to date (1 year later) has stopped responding to users both in tickets and in call-in support cases.

Therefore, I am opening this forum thread, since – unlike their closed-system tickets with my detailed repro steps and logs lovingly attached, festering in their mothballed "triage" queue – this forum is publicly crawled by my former employer, Google, and I hope this will be a top search result some day to showcase yet again the ineptness of Apple product leadership.

Anyway, your reply was not helpful. Thanks again for sharing.
