Ever since updating to IOS 18, my messages are disappearing

Ever since I updated my Iphone 15 to IOS 18. I have had a problem with one of my contacts messages. I have all the texts up to the day I updated (September 21st) but between then and now every time one of us texts a text from a previous day gets disappeared. So for instance after the 21st the next text I have is from September 29th and is an address. But if I was to send a text now then that message would disappear. I am using the term disappear because if I go out of the conversation and use the messages search bar I can still find the messages from those 8 days but upon pressing on them it just shoots me to the last text on the 21st. This is only happening with this contact, and am wondering why. The only difference between them and my other contacts is that i have an email address in her contact card since she sometimes texts me from her mac. But not all the texts from the 21st till now have been through the mac. Also all the photos, links and videos sent in that time span are still able to be seen if i click on her icon in the conversation. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so were you able to fix this.

I have been having the same issue. I text my husband daily and it's only his messages that are disappearing daily. I have him pinned at the top of my messages and I noticed that it is happening every 24 hours. but yet there are messages from last year on there but not the most recent ones. it's really annoying.

this update has been one of the worsts updates since I have done it my phone has been so glitchy! I wish I hasn't bothered with it tbh.

I'm SO glad to finally find this! I've had ALL of these issues! Mine stop at October 18th and I'm wondering if that is the day I updated. My sister and I text all day, every day. But currently I can only see about 24 hours worth of texts and then nothing - it jumps to October 18th. I am chatting with apple now, but the response was,

"Allow me to comment you that based on the information I have found on my

end regarding this same issue that is seems to be currently affecting

iOS devices, the best option it is to get you in touch with my Senior

Advisor over the phone, as a higher unit they could investigate further

with our engineers, to proceed, could you please confirm me your

preferred phone number and timezone? (If you wish to proceed with the

call)"

We will see if they call. But this is SO FRUSTRATING!

I also had the contact issue with her - showing up as her phone number and her email address in a group text, when it was just our thread. After trying literally everything I think I ended up deleting her entire contact card, and re-adding it. I can't remember specifics, I may have left off her email at first, then added it later? But that got corrected. I wish they would fix this!!

Update - they had my resync my messages with iCloud. Mine was turned on, and it said it was last synced this morning but messages said, "0". I re did it, but everytime it gets to the end it says, "sync paused" and the problem persists. Except now I can't even see texts from my sister back past 3 hours ago (until that magical october 18th date). Trying to re-contact apple. WHAT A PAIN. Has anybody actually fixed this issue???

I have had the same exact problem since I updated Sept 28. I was on the phone texting and calling for two days when they continuously told me to restart my phone. Nothing worked. I went into an Apple Store the third day and one of the employees told me to wait for the update. I switched my 14 pro to the 16 pro and did the IOS 18.1 update and still, my conversations continue to disappear. It’s been over a month of dealing with this and what’s odd is that it’s only happening to one primary conversation I text often in as well.

It is nice to know that other people are having this issue as well. I am having all of the same issues as those described in the other comments. I’ve had messages disappear since October 30th. I can’t even look back within the last 4 hours since those messages have already deleted. The weird thing is that any media sent during the time where messages delete, the photos or links show under the profile where it collates the photos sent. I am also experiencing this with just one contact. This contact appears strangely when I receive text messages too. Instead of the notification being “Contact Name sent a message” it appears as “(123)456-7890 sent a message to you and contact name”. I of course subbed the real names and numbers for privacy. This is ridiculous. Over a month of dealing with this and Apple has not been any help.

APPLE’S RESPONSE

I contacted Apple about the problem and it ended up being a three day ordeal of them calling me back with their findings… of nothing. They essentially said that I found a bug and it is being sent to the engineers to fix. They said to keep up with software updates as this bug will be fixed with the next update. Shortly after that 18.1.1 came out and never mentioned a bug fix in the description… nor did it fix the issue. Fingers crossed for 18.1.2 to fix the extremely frustrating issue. Not happy with this new update. I hope Apple gets it together soon!

I transferred my older 2 nd generation use phone only 2 1/2 years old to a new iPhone 15. All was fine . All of h the over several hundred pictures wd come together in the see all feature in messages. Nest day to my shock not only were they gone but as a scrolled through all the meager from my daughter several years had blue circle where there were photos. Next I went to another freinds messages and several years were gone. I must have talked to 15 different senior advisors who told how superior they were and spent a months worth of man hours doing everything they tol me to no avail. Include this with two 1 hour trips to the Apple Store and factory resetting my phone. Told it got glitched at store due to bad wi fi connection or was my apple account??? By the was I asked if it was the 18.1.2 update. Got sent to engineering dept. I finally sent new phone back. Then yesterday I made one last call and found out a report was made that the new update was causing all these problems and they didn’t know when they cd fix problem. Plus that I will not be getting anything back. DISGUSTED

So I’ve had all these same issues

-mostly 1 specific contact

-messages disappearing back to a specific date (sept 20 when I got new 16promax)

-same contact not being recognized when I receive messages from them. It says ‘from maybe x to you and x’

-issue only in iPhone; everything normal on iMac and MBA

WELL IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED W 18.2!!! I didn’t see a mention of this in the bug notes but it seems to be fixed. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

Two of my many contacts as far as I know are having this disappearing messages issue. The only people that I have noticed that have changed their picture that shows on their number. I have done updates, checked my iMessage synching and looked at settings since RCS is on here now. Both are iPhone users but they say “text message - SMS” at the top of one and “text message - SMS iMessage” at the top of the other. It consistently deletes the messages after a couple of days but just with these two contacts.

I dont know if I should put my issues in this thread or not but Im gonna see anyways. So I dont have these issues but I wanna say I have found a bug where I noticed that for some reason when I go to manually delete texts from my phone theyre not being deleted on the icloud or server end. I know from doing research it takes up to 24hr-4 days to delete on the server end. I dont have the messages turned on in my icloud. My point is its causing my icloud to increase more than it should and I think its cuz the texts arent being deleted on the server end. I have iphone se 2022 and I have ios 18.2.1 and I noticed this to be a problem in maybe 18.1 I wanna say but maybe it started in ios 18.0. I have texts set in my settings to keep texts for 30 days. But like I said I manually delete them from my phone and from recently deleted folder. SO Im just wondering why the texts arent being deleted from the server. If anyone has this issue let me know thanks

Hi, I had a problem with messages disappearing too, I’m not tech savvy so I called Apple support. It took 2 hours but we were able to retrieve them all (I think)!

I also see a glitch- when I’m in the phone mode and under recents- if I click on the ‘I’ to the right of a person, so I can pull up their info to text them instead of call, when I click messages, it brings me to all my messages and not immediately to that persons text. Weird, all these problems and glitches, why???
