Why do I keep getting this pop up on my iPad “do you want to download occ?”

While there had been no confirmation I can find, that appears to most likely be a malware attack on a number of websites, mostly or all being news sites from what I've seen. If that is indeed the case, there's nothing you can do about it other than just closing the popup when it appears. Do not, under any circumstances, allow the download.

It's been reported on a number of forum sites by users with multiple devices, OS versions and browsers, so it's not tied to any specific update.

I would imagine that the website owners are working on it, yes. On your end the only possible fix that's been identified is to install some sort of ad blocking app on your device, such as 1Blocker.

I have an ad blocker installed and never see this on any of my devices.

Since most websites subscribe to an advertising package, they don’t make or send the ads themselves, it is most likely some kind of bad ad from the advertising service.

Most websites subscribe to ad services from Facebook, Google or Amazon.

I too got this popup on my iPad (gen 9) yesterday and today. However, at the beginning of the week I updated to 17.7. Prior to that never had this popup appear. Now, it may be just a co-incidence and it is not the fault of the update. I was on a particular website that is known for many news sites when it happened. It would not surprise me that it is dealing with a malware attack. I immediately closed the popup and went to 'clear history and website data'. Did notify Apple.

Is anybody working on fixing this? It is not just news sites. Began happening to me two days ago….
