Downloaded iPad 18 after upgrading to iPad OS 17.7. Download was completed. There is enough room on my iPad Pro M4 11 inch. No VPN being used and sufficient charge. I have tried restarting, using different WiFi networks etc. Unable to verify the iPad OS and try later is the error message for the last 24 hours.
help?

Yeah, I was on the phone with Apple last night for about two hours. The gal never mentioned anything about this. Good news, although the iPad wouldn't update, it's not bricked but stuck on 17.5.1 for the time being. She said I need to send it in but maybe it'll be okay once the update issue has been resolved.
May not be solely the brick issue with iPad Pro. I am having a very similar issue with a new iPad Air 11-inch. When attempting to migrate/restore data from my old iPad, the setup process insists on first updating to iOS 18 (would have been great if it was delivered that way, but ok). iOS 18 update downloads, then begin the install process, and from there it just spins for hours (I even let it go overnight).
Sadly, this is not the smooth upgrade process we have come to expect from Apple. I may be using my old iPad Air for longer than I anticipated!
Apple pulled the update for iPadOS 18 because of an issue that it bricked some iPads with M4 processors. We must patiently await a fix.

I am having this issue as well but n my M4 11inch iPad Pro. I have been trying off and on last night and today.
Same situation and I’ve tried everything including deleting the update and starting over. Also iPad Pro M4
if no resolution I’ll need to go to an Apple Store
