Chrome on Mac won’t open

You need to download Chrome from Google's website:

https://www.google.com/chrome/

I downloaded Google again hoping it would open and it still doesn't. Apple Genius suggested deleting Google first but then said I'd lose all my history etc.

I assume you mean you deleted Chrome. Google is a company.

As long as you're signed into your Google account in Chrome, you shouldn't lose anything when you delete the application. I can access all of my history on any of the devices I use, including my Windows computer at work from Chrome. Deleting or logging out of Chrome doesn't remove that data.

The Apple Genius was correct.

The Genius was only part right. You were entirely right. Thanks, it turns out all my funky stuff was there after deleting/reinstalling Chrome (the Genius said I'd lose everything). And thank God I didn't delete Google.

Indeed. I misread. I'm glad you got it sorted out.

And thank God I didn't delete Google.

There are many who would say that's exactly what needs to happen! ;-)
