When I try to view articles in Apple News+ with my VPN connected I get the following message:
"This story is unavailable.
Apple News isn’t connected to the internet."
If I disconnect the VPN there is no problem, I can access everything. Is there a way around the problem?

With the help of my VPN support, I found a workaround. I changed the VPN protocol to IKEv2 and Apple News worked fine. Let me know if it works for you.

This also worked for me, but I'm only able to change the protocol to IKEv2 if I disable all the "advanced protection" features that block malicious sites, etc. I tried disabling things like blocking ads, but it's all or nothing. Not that I'm worried about malicious sites when using the Apple News app. Thanks for the tip, however. I would never have thought of that.
I've had the same problem since the latest update to Mac OS.
Some users have had success uninstalling and reinstalling their VPN. The same is true for iPhone users.

There are specific uses for a VPN, with one for an employee to "tunnel" into a companies servers without interference. With this case, the employer will provide the VPN along with the settings to accomplish the task securely. Unfortunately, VPN providers have used this case to make the false claim that they can provide the same protections for you as well.
