Apple Podcasts marking episodes as played early

For a while, Apple Podcasts marks an episode is played well before I have finished listening to it.

this seems to most often occur (but not always) if Show B starts playing, but I want to listen to Show A first. I click play on Show A, and Show B gets marked as played. I only use the view for latest episodes, if that matters for reproducing this.
