Downloads lost on dock: solution from another

So I somehow removed the downloads from my dock on my Mac mini. I searched for an answer and now I can share it. "In Finder, enable the Sidebar from View, Show Sidebar. Then right click or Control Click on the Downloads folder in the Sidebar, then click on "Add to Dock". " I can say with confidence this fixed the issue. Someone else told me to drag it and doing that only made the system tell me I don't have permission to open my own files.

Mac mini, macOS 14.5
