Is MacOS Apple Music being maintained?

I have a MacBook Pro M1, and Apple Music feels very slow when performing any tasks:

  • It takes a long time just to start the application.
  • Changing songs takes 2 to 3 seconds; it should be instant.
  • Navigation between the artists' home pages and your playlists is difficult and sometimes confusing.
  • Not having podcasts and music on the same platform is also a pain.

In the end, this product seems unfinished and not maintained. Why don't you just buy Spotify?

The iOS app is a bit better, but it’s still not great. This is especially painful for someone used to Spotify. I switched because this app is included in my Apple One package.

Thanks.

If you are experiencing slow performance when using Apple Music, it is likely that your computer has processes running on startup that are consuming valuable resources either from using too much memory requiring memory swaps or using CPU cycles needlessly.

The best way to approach this is to first remove any app that falls into one of these categories that are known to cause this kind of performance problem:

  • Cleaners
  • Optimizers
  • AntiVirus
  • VPN

After that post the free EtreCheck report by using the Additional Text option when posting. This will give a detailed report of the files launching on startup without showing any personal information.

If you are simply looking to provide feedback to Apple, then you can use this link. That is the only way to have Apple view your concerns as the post here will not be forwarded to them in this user to user support forum.

Product Feedback - Apple

If solving a problem as described in your original post of being slow response time is what you want resolved, then the EtreCheck report is essential to determine why that is happening to you. It is not my experience using the app daily and should not be for you either.

The suggestion to use EtreCheck seems like an ad? It's not. Etrecheck is a piece of software designed by a long time member of this forum solely for the purpose of giving information to people who are trying to help you without giving out any of your personal information. It's free. You can opt to pay for it if you want to support the developer but you don't need to.

Posting an EtreCheck support saves everyone a lot of time. People don't have to keep asking you question, explaining to you where to look for things.

But, it's up to you. Post it if you want better help. Or don't.

So many things wrong, many of which used to work fine. Searching for music is a train wreck and needs some kind of complete overhaul. Shuffle, in a huge playlist with many bands, silently switches to playing the songs from the same band in both iOS and Mac. The normalization function (evening out of wildly different volume levels between songs) "Sound Check" is worthless. Checking/unchecking this preference doesn't do anything. Often (Mac OS) a song choice will appear to be playing visually (hopping level meter bars), but no sound. I have to play a different song and then go back, to get it to work. All my music is stored locally BTW, on an M1 MacBook with the latest software. And all of these can be duplicated on my wife's new M2 MacBook with the latest software.

I wish Apple would step up it's software game and squash some of these bugs that have been around for far too long. No full screen photo display in Photos, no way to share a map location to a Contact, etc.. The core apps are starting to feel like obsolete shareware.
