Find my network

"Find My network" states "Locate your devices on a map, even when they are not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular."

What process does this tout as available? Is this like the COVID-19 contact tracing via Bluetooth, tuned to work with devices such as Airpods?

In my (brief) search, I was unable to locate any documentation related to this (online nor in the local guide available in the Help menu).

Please advise as to "what's new."

Find My network uses bluetooth and nearby Apple devices to update locations of lost devices and report them back to Apple and the user that is looking for them as long as they have enough power to maintain bluetooth on. Even if turned off, newer devices such as iPhones and iPads will produce a bluetooth beacon that can be picked up by other devices to determine their location.

It is entirely transparent to the user, and there is nothing that needs to be done form your side, that's why there is no documentation about it.
