apple watch passcode auto attempts without me touching screen

I have an apple watch and its worked fine for four months. Now it automatically attempts to unlock when I put it on and I can literally see it typing numbers. It will fail and then say attempt again. How do I get it to respond again to only touches on the screen for passcode?

I've attempted to disable the passcode on my iphone via apple watch app, but it says to unlock it first. I'm currently waiting for three hours to attempt again.
