Apple TV+ video from Roku on only the "Bloody Hundred" video plays static video after a few seconds; audio & other videos fine

Apple TV+ video from Roku video on ONLY the "Bloody Hundred" starts playing normally, then after a few seconds, the video ONLY goes old school 'static' (video garbled by thin rectangles of color), but sound continues fine. In upper left corner there is a warning about 'flashing displays' that is kind of buried under the static-ky video.

I had exactly the same experience as you descrigbed. I was finally able to get “The Bloody Hundredth”video to play by changing a setting on my Vizio TV. In the Vizio TV settings, I went to PICTURE, INPUT PICTURE SETTINGS, HDMI MODE, and selected COMPATABILITY. The TV was previously set to AUTO, which was the wrong setting for this particular video. Never had a problem before, but after this change I was able to watch the video and the change did not negatively affect any other videos from Apple TV+ or other streaming services. Hope this helps you and anyne else having this issue.

Hi wolfwerk,

I also called Apple's Tech Support after I posted my problem viewing "Bloody Hundred" video (above).

Got 'Tory", who helped me track down the problem for over 1 hour! He was very good & determined to fix it. While I also think a faulty, or perhaps more likely, an "unusual" format of the video is the ultimate problem, we were able to fix it on my Roku (video device I use with my Sony TV). Here's what Tory suggested I do:

Problem --> Was in the Roku's Settings >>> Display Type >>> Automatic (Dolby 4K Vision)

Fix --> Change from Dolby 4k --> 1080 p TV

He was right, the video played fine afterwards. Again, I think there is some conflict between the "Bloody Hundred" video format & the video decoder that is used by Roku & probably many other video devices.

After watching the excellent video documentary (Bloody Hundred), I switched my TV back to it's default "Automatic (Dolby 4K Vision)" setting.

Good luck on fixing your video problem; I'm sorry the fix is "inelegant"!
