I downloaded the beta live captions and now I can't seem to turn it off. Its starting to get really annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: "Can't seem to turn off live caption"

Thank you for your post, and the screenshot. Surprised it says the settings are not available.

(Wonder what happens when you click the "Learn More" link at top right.)

Apple Support's online article: Use Live Captions on Mac - Apple Support

says:

"Turn Live Captions on or off

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Accessibility in the sidebar, then click Live Captions on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Turn Live Captions (Beta) on or off.
  3. The Live Captions window appears and stays on screen.
  4. If you want to hide the window when no audio is detected, click the Live Captions icon in

the menu bar , then make sure Keep Onscreen isn’t chosen.

Note: The first time you turn on Live Captions, language data is downloaded to your Mac.

You must be connected to the internet".

You can also: Change Live Captions settings for accessibility on Mac - Apple Support

and

Hope something here helps!

All the best :-)

Thank you for your post to the Community, dj2105.

Wondering if updating to the new Sonoma update: MacOS Sonoma 14.4 would help.

If the settings for turning off are not available:

Use Live Captions on Mac - Apple Support

says:

"You can pause captioning at any time, without turning Live Captions off.

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Pause  button in the Live Captions window. Click the Play button to restart captioning.
  • Click the Live Captions icon  in the menu bar, then choose Stop Live Captions. Choose Start Live Captions to resume captioning."

I have exactly the same the settings for Live Captions are not available message. When I searched for this on google, this post was the only thing it found! However, I'm just using Sonoma 14.3.1, and neither asked to enable live captions, nor downloaded any beta.

I can't find any way to disable live captions from starting automatically when playing youtube videos. I would really appreciate any help achieving this.

Clicking on learn more just brings up the help for Change Captions settings for accessibility on Mac, and these make no reference to Live Caption settings not being available.

Help! Please. Thank you.
