Unable to connect to NAS from Mac

There was a problem connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator.

Was trying to map a network drive NAS on Mac, but it pops out this message, how to fix this issue?

I'm experiencing the same problem trying to mount an NFS volume.

The volume can be mounted without problems by another client on Linux.

However I was able to successfully mount it from the terminal, as root:

$ sudo -i
# mkdir /Volumes/Whatever
# mount -t nfs servername:/sharename /Volumes/Whatever

Clearly there is something in the way the client gets invoked in the GUI.
