Mac Studio issues with NAS (Synology)

On-going issues since I received the Mac Studio. I opened a case with Apple, and they are ignoring me and deflecting.

Background

I have 2 Mac Mini, 2 iMacs and 2 MacBook Pros. One of the MacBooks is a M1, the rest are Intel. I also have a number of Linux machines, and Windows Machines. Also iPads and iPhones.

All use the three Synology NAS(s) successfully for years.

I upgrade the 2018 Mac Mini to a Mac Studio.

  • Same ethernet cord
  • Both use 10G
  • both on Monterey

The Studio is slow or can not connect to the NAS(s). They are set to

  • SMB
  • Max SMB Protocol = SMB3
  • Min SMB = SMB1 {This is needed for a Linux Machine)
  • Transport Enc = Client Define
  • Enable server sign = disable
  • Enable Opportunistic locking on
  • Enable SMB2 lease on
  • no WINS server
  • Enable VFS module to convert Mac Special characters enabled.

Apple support handed me to Synology, who asked for logs and never replied. Called Apple back no response.

This was a take the Mac Mini OUT, put the Studio in. All other Apple, Windows, and Linux machines are working fine with NAS(s). There are three NAS all can not be consistently connected to.

Is ANYONE ELSE seeing this?

Steps to reproduce

  • boot up Mac
  • wait for NAS drives to attach (usually 90% of the time they will, but takes 60-90 seconds)
  • logout
  • No NAS Drives will attach

At this point, I can PING the IP of the NAS, get to their WEB Consoles but no SMB

I have been able to reproduce this 3 times.

Twice I killed the "NetAuthSysAgent" process on the Mac and imediatly the Shares Mount.

I'm having a similar issue with my Studio. I'm able to see and connect to the NAS, however, it randomly drops the connection for a microsecond. Not long enough that the NAS disconnects, but long enough that if I'm in a directory, it flashes, and then brings me back to the root of the NAS volume. It has been wreaking havoc on the TV and Music apps, as all my media is on the NAS. I contacted apple several times and each time I was told by a level 2 tech that they would take ownership of the case and call me back the next day. None of them ever do. I finally got so frustrated I disconnected everything and brought it in to the Apple Store where they agreed to return it and give me a new one, but that presented its own challenges. I have a 2017 MBP, 2019 27" iMac, 2016 MBP, 2012 Mac Mini, 2010 Mac Pro, 2002 iMac G4 and a 2000 Mac Cube that all have no issues accessing the NAS. It's Samba. Not sure why that would be an issue for an M1 but it appears to be that or just the studio model? The 2016+ all are running Monterey, the Mac mini is on Catalina, the Mac Pro is running Big Sur, and the iMac and Cube are running Tiger and Panther respectively.

This started with a Netgear ReadyNAS RN204 which is what I originally thought the problem was. I went and replaced that with a Terra-Master FN-214 (which I love and is soooooo much faster) and still have the same issue.

I have completely erased and reinstalled the OS 3 times now. That didn't fix anything.

Any insight would be great.
