After restarting my MacBook Pro, the SD card reader functions properly
and reads the initially inserted card. However, if I remove and reinsert
the same card, it fails to be recognized by Finder or Disk Utility.
This recurring issue is highly inconvenient, as it necessitates
rebooting the MacBook each time I need to use an SD card, yet a solution
remains elusive despite online searches.

sorry if this is over simplified, but are you ejecting the card before removing it from the reader?

I have upgraded today, as a possible solution to this issue. But the upgrade to 14.3.1 did not solve the issue.

Does the Photos app recognize it? And are you updated to the latest macOS?
Since the card only gets mounted when I restart the system, the Photos app does not open automatically. I have update to Sonoma 14.3.1
PS - After restarting, Photos can access the images in the card.
PS2 - This issue started before I updated to Sonoma 14.3.1. Until a few days ago, the SD cards were mounting automatically.
How long are you waiting after inserting the card for it to be recognized? And do you have a different external device connected? Were they mounting properly before 14.3.1?
