LG display not detected on Macbook Air M2 2022

Plugging LG display in to my MacBook Air via USB-C cable that came with display charges laptop but does not detect display. The display turns on when I plug in my iPad Air 5 to the same USB-C cable so it's not a cable or display issue. When I changed my 'Allow accessories to connect' setting to "ask every time", the dialog box appears and disappears every few seconds. Even when I manage to click Allow, nothing happens. I've tried a couple other cables (Belkin thunderbolt 3 and OWC thunderbolt 4), restarting, putting laptop to sleep... and nothing has worked. Anyone else have the same issue and found a solution?
