Apple Pencil will only drag screen (notes)

I'm using my Mac to write notes and when I want to draw images or math equations I want to use my iPad, I've paired the pencil and both iPad and Mac have the apple notes app open, but I cannot draw despite pressing the draw button, the Apple Pencil will only drag the screen or highlight text.

I cannot write using my Apple Pencil in Notes I’ve tried to use my Apple Pencil to hand write to but cannot get the Markup button to show up. I can use the pen to annotate photos, pdfs, etc., but cannot in Notes. Is there a solution to this? (I am using IPadOS 16.1)

Apple Pencil for Drawing on Sidecar Hello, I and using my iPad as sidecar but facing issues with Apple Pencil. I can use Apple Pencil to tap on menu and actions but can't use it for drawing in Notes or Apple Freeform app. Any idea if it's an issue with Sidecar configuration or is it because Notes and Freeform app don't support Apple Pencil drawing?
