Spam events on my calendar

Hi … The spam “event” below has suddenly appeared on my iPhone calendar (whilst the phone was not in use). I have gone through previous forums which suggest that I have probably inadvertently clicked on some kind of link but I honestly don’t know how it has got there, and certainly not from the kind of site that it appears to be from. The suggested fix is to find the rogue calendar in settings and delete it, but as you can see from the photo, there is no facility to delete. I did click on the “decline” option at the bottom of the event, but it does nothing… your advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I have just done an update so I am now running on ios 16.7.5

Thank you very much Mac Jim ID, I really appreciate your response.

I have now removed calendar from Hotmail and it seems to have worked, the bogus events have all disappeared :)

Do you think that my Hotmail has been compromised? Is that why the event was able to get into my calendar in which case what action would you suggest?

To be honest, I do not know enough about the Hotmail or Outlook accounts to determine if they have been compromised. I would change the passwords on those accounts at the very least. You may want to contact Microsoft Support for more details. The Microsoft Support forums are also flooded with users who have these Spam calendar events on devices other than the iPhone as well, so I would not expect them to say it is an iPhone problem, but they may try. It seems that all the users on this Support Forum who have had these Spam events have had a Hotmail or Outlook email account, so that seems to be the source of the problem.

I have the same problem but the suggested fix from Mac Jim ID is not visible in this thread. I use Outlook for my calendaring and have deleted the junk calendar events there but those deletions won't sync to my iPhone 14 with IOS 17. If I delete the Outlook calendar from the iPhone in the Account Settings, it removes the spam but everything else. If I turn the calendar back on, my calendar entries don't come right back. I have to wait a good 10-15 minutes for the calendar to re-sync. I am finding more and more spammers using Outlook calendar entries and the iOS mail app will add them to the calendar even if they are not opened. I'm not sure but I think it is doing it even to those entries that are going into junk. There should be a delete option for calendar entries in the iOS mail app for such issues.
