My phone is currently on iOS 17.0.2 and I’m scared to update to iOS 17.2.1 since it could significantly worsen the phone’s battery life and performance. Should I update? What do you think?

You should update yes. Updates only affect battery life in the first 48 hours after the update, because the iPhone is busy indexing the update

Whenever you install a new update, the phone works overtime for a few days to index all the data on the phone.
Over a billion phones update with no problems, but there is always some issue with every update for a few users. No one posts here to say that their phone is working fine. Everyone here has a problem.
I'm convinced that if there was ever an update that did absolutely nothing except restart the phone, there would be posts from users claiming that the update killed their phone.

I don't know what iOS version you are using now, but you would have never updated your phone to that version if you spent any time here looking at posts about that version.
I’ve already downloaded it, I’m just about to install it, So, what you mean is my battery life will be a bit choppy for 48 hours, and then it’s gone back to normal?

No don’t, because I had a brother personally yeah, when I updated, my brother took my phone and tried to see what’s in it, it had a password, but the update crashed my phone and made it unlocked, so he went into my business, wouldn’t recommend updating 🤦🏻♂️
Report it.. I don’t think an update can do this.. This is the first time I’ve heard an iOS update or a version can have a bug like that.
