iOS autocorrects words when hitting send in Messages

Autocorrect has started “correcting” words after I hit send when in Messages. A lot of the time it’s a word the system doesn’t recognize or in a context that makes autocorrect think I mean something else…but I want it to be spelled that way and I put it there on purpose. It will attempt to “correct” the word at first and I will correct the autocorrect so that it doesn’t change the word. Then, when I hit send, it will go back and correct the word again anyway but I can’t fix it unless I catch it after it is delivered and can edit the message. I can’t edit it on sms so it just hijacks my message and sends out the wrong words.

How can stop this behavior?

Is this something I can fix without disabling all of autocorrect? Autocorrect didn’t work like this until this last update when it seemingly started trying to correct based on context.

(Also, I don’t want links to how autocorrect works. I don’t need the generic replies with “answers” that don’t address the specific question. Don’t point me to an Apple “how-to” link. I can use the search bar. These answers won’t be there.)

Sorry it's not an answer, but this has been happening to me (and apparently a lot of others too) since an update in fall 2023. It's not just in one specific app, it's everywhere -- and even if I've already declined autocorrect's suggestion to change the word. It'll seem like it respects my decision and leaves the word alone, then I hit send and see the word has been changed without permission anyway. I've screen recorded this happening as well, so it's not just a matter of not noticing the change before hitting send. It's ridiculous that they think people want this, and as with all iOS "features", it cannot be turned off.

They always implement things like this just to make it look like they're changing something with each update, even when that change is godawful 99% of the time. No amount of complaining will make them revert it either. Garbage company.
