no pause feature on Apple Watch after update to watch OS 10.2

I can't pause my music or audio books on my Apple Watch since I updated it this month 12/23 to 10.2. I tried disconnecting my air pods from my phone and then reconnecting them but it didn't work. My watch shows a picture of the book I'm listening to or the song but no pause. It's really annoying. Any solutions out there?
