CarPlay issue: iphone 15 Pro Max + Apple OEM USB-A to lightning cable + Apple OEM lightning to USB-C adapter

I have a 2020 Lexus RX 350 SUV with wired Apple CarPlay. I bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max last weekend and picked up a female lightning to USB-C adapter. I plugged my phone into the car's usual CarPlay port using the OEM cable + OEM adapter and nothing.

The phone won't connect to CarPlay. I confirmed that CarPlay is turned on (it was never turned off). My wife's iPhone SE connects just fine to CarPlay. It's just my phone.

Any suggestions?

I am having problems with wireless CarPlay on a 2019 BMW. After update it works but there is no sound I have to turn off the audio turn it back on and then restart the music. I am a first time apple user and I think Android is just better in every way at this point.
