Photos Disappeared

iPhone 15 Pro. IOS 17.2.

A few days ago, I took about a dozen photos that never appeared in my camera roll. They are not in the hidden or recently deleted folders nor in a shared library. I forced start my phone several times. Nothing has worked so far. It’s almost as if the photos were never taken - but they were. How can I recover these photos?
