is there a way to mute the ringer on my end when I make outgoing calls?
sometimes I call people after others in my house go to bed. And the ringer is so loud. And it’s unnecessary for me. I’m aware I’m calling someone. I don’t need to hear the ringing.

It’s when I FaceTime people. Which if I’m not mistaken you have to do via speaker phone. And I don’t have any earbuds or anything. Maybe I just need to buy some.

I understand that you would like to have a period of silence when the call recipient’s phone is ringing. There is no direct method of accomplishing what you are asking.
Do you use the speaker phone dial out? Can you use the normal microphone and speaker (ear) when dialing out?

You are correct. When you use a FaceTime then you have to use the speaker phone. Also correct, on getting some earbuds to address this issue.
