Can't pair my hearing aid device with my iPhone since iOS 17.1.2 update

After the 17.1.2 update my Phonak non rechargeable hearing aids won’t connect to either the Costco Easyline Ap or the My Phonak ap. I tried deinstalling the apps and reinstalling. Tried turning Bluetooth off and on. Tried restarting my phone. They are just not found by the app to pair to my phone. Tried new batteries…. No luck at all. The hearing aids work, they just don’t connect so no way to stream over Bluetooth. Really frustrating!!!

I have to admit, I was hasty and blaming Apple for the whole problem. I finally did get my hearing aids to connect. Here is the process I went through. Maybe it will help you at least I hope so.

  1. turned off Bluetooth on every device in the house and the car Apple connect.(I suspect the car might have been the culprit because I had turned off Bluetooth on the other devices before.)
  2. restarted, iPhone
  3. put the hearing aids back in the case, and opened up accessibility > hearing devices in the settings menu.
  4. got hearing aids out of the case and they were actually found fairly quickly.
  5. This is the part I don’t exactly remember. I think they automatically paired, but it is possible that they were found and then I had to put them back in the case again to get them to pair but I am not sure about that part.
  6. I don’t know if this step was necessary, but it is what I did. Prior to the pairing above, I removed my old Jabra hearing aid app from my iPhone, and restarted the iPhone just in case there was something wrong with the app. I then redownloaded the app and reinstalled. at that point, I was able to go into the Jabra app and reconnect the hearing aids there as well.

My hearing aids have now been working well and connecting automatically. Every time I take them out of the charger. being visually impaired, as well as hearing impaired. This has been a real lifesaver for me. I hope it works for you. Smiles to you.

This is for people who just purchased a new phone. The new phone downloaded automatically the Phonak app but the pairing was still for the old phone. So in the app I clicked on the two hearing aids and then clicked "forget this device" for each one. Then I was able to pair them again in the app. At this point they also showed up in Bluetooth settings. Only took me two days to figure this out for myself - no help from Apple or Phonak - nothing else worked.

I, too, have had major issues with my iphone 15 pro and phonak Audeo hearing aids with OS 17.5. It used to connect automatically. Now, I have to "forget" the device, turn off my right hearing aid, turn it on again, and It's recognized and pairs. Up to IOS 17.5, they operated perfectly without all this hassle -- connected as soon as in range. They also operate decently on my ipad pro ipadOS 17.5 (connect when in range *most* of the time). Apple has the problem, not phonak. They seem to be too busy working on an AI that I refuse to have, rather than fixing the problems they introduced. They do connect (left and right) properly from the Phonak app. As with everyone, Apple can't fix a problem they won't admit to.

Maybe Apple should help Microsoft with Windows -- fix what was working perfectly.

Thanks. These steps work to pair to the iPhone 15 using the MyPhonak app.

However there remains a big problem which is that we cannot in the Bluetooth options select any audio options. This breaks streaming so we still cannot stream audio to the Phonak hearing aids.

One way to fix this is to pair the hearing aid without running the MyPhonak app. But this will affect the hearing aid's settings.

Phonak and Apple PLEASE sort this out. Lots of people rely on this for their hearing.
