iCloud drive on my Macbook pro M1 Sonoma 14.1.2 is downloading 5 GB of data everyday

My Macbook pro M1 Sonoma 14.1.2 is downloading about 5 GB of data everyday without any sense. Everyday is syncing data but from day 1 to 2 day i don't have that amount of data to sync. iCloud doesn't give error of syncing and there is no way to know which data iCloud is trying to sync. I have called the Apple support and we have tried to sing out and sign in to iCloud from the Mac erasing all the local drive backup and trying to resync everything but after the resyncing the Mac start again with the same behaviour .

Is there a way to see logs of what is doing the iCloud service (bird demon) on the background?

And more i think is time to Apple to give access to the user the visibility of what the iCloud service is doing in the background. It is not enough to know that iCloud is syncing let's say 14 files but we don't what kind of files they are.

I think iCloud service is really bad and Apple should pay attention to what they are selling to their customers. I have 2 TB plan but in the end i think i will pass to onedrive which is working smoothly on my Mac.

I hope that i'll find someone else who has the same problem of me (i think i am not alone here) and I hope Apple will start to play seriously on the iCloud service.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

hi; same as me also - after upgrading to sonoma (14.1.2) my macmini & air started to struggle

everytime shutdown and start my mini or air, it starts to download 6,29.GB data but in every computer & also icloud.com storage tells me that my icloud drive storage is 3,50.GB - but it still wants to dowload 6.30.GB of unknown data

in finder, when I right-click on icloud drive and click"get info" it shows my icloud drive is 9,86.GB - you see in attachment

I made call with support, told me to re-install sonoma - did it but nothing changed

in second call - they told me that they will a thing (like reindexin icloud drive data) it may help... 2 days passed but still no change

it is really annoying - I am keeping macmini always on so no need to download that 6,29.GB of unknown data but for macair - evertime I start it, it needs to download that unknown data & I am loosing my cellur data because I connect with iphone hotspot

hope they will fix it - if I get an early fix, will inform here also

yes, we are just same - as you told, it is not trying to download/sync within 24 hours - in same day, when I turn off & on my mac air, it doesnot try, but next day it does

I asked them when I am on phone support with apple "if there is a way to see what is icloud is downloadin?" answer is a big no :)

somestimes even all my desktop & document files are synced, icloud syncing that 6,39.GB data again and again - it should have a command to stop or pause syncing for a time, when not needed

waiting a call from support to see if "icloud drive re-indexing is ok or not" - will inform you more

Hi Aterkut,

thank you for your reply. I don't know if you are in the same situation of mine. If i try to restart my mac in the same day that the syncing procedure end with success my mac doesn't try to download again that files. It try to download it after 24 hours.

The problem is that we don't have the visibility on what the processes involved in the syncing procedure are doing. I think if sonoma told you the files that is trying to sync where x,y,z you should try to move files to some other places so you could at least try to see if the problem was solved or not.

Apple should document the iCloud service more and need to be more transparent to the user so when the user has this kind of problem is able to understand and try to solve it autonomously.

Regards.

ok, so we have the same problem. Unbelievable that iCloud must have this features asap:

1) Possibility to do traffic shaping for download/upload iCloud service

2) iCloud must show the files who is trying to sync download/upload

3) iCloud should return error to the user for any kind of syncing problem

I have opened a case to apple but in the end i had the same answer that you told me.

I hope someone in apple is reading this thread and improve iCloud for the next release.
