Can't backup iPhone to computer since iOS 17.1.1

So after updating this iPhone 13 mini to iOS 17.1.1, I can no longer back it up to the old computer- a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) that tops out with a version 10.12.6. That seems to be my sad story. Is there a happy ending that I'm missing? Not interested in iCloud backing up

I backed up the computer. Even though "About this mac" tells me there are no updates,

I clicked here-> (How to download and install macOS - Apple Support) and then on to download High Sierra (10.13 .6). This message came up however: "This copy of the install masOS High Sierra application is damaged, and can't be used to install mac OS." So that ends that.

Searched...looks like it is available on a non-Apple website. Would it be a good idea to download it from this website

(this is kinda scary- I'll look back tomorrow)

The High Sierra Finder won't see the iPhone. For High Sierra, you'll still be doing iTunes-based synchronization.

Check what version of iTunes you have. If it is lower than 12.8.3,, try installing iTunes 12.8.3 from

https://www.apple.com/itunes/

and maybe check the iPhone 15 Technical Specifications to see if there is a link to iTunes there.

Thank you for the assistance in dating the OS. Your directions worked perfectly so the Mac OS is now 10.13.6 High Sierra. When the iPhone is connected to the computer via USB, it indicates the phone is charging. Yet, neither the computer Finder or iTunes sees the iphone 17.1.1. That's a funny thing because (fortunately) Image Capture still sees the phone and I can download photos to the Mac.

Finally worked. I searched and found the following website and followed the steps. May have reinstalled iTunes 12.8.3 and there was downloading and restarting but in the end it worked to Go -> Go to Folder and enter the following: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources and install and it worked. The website was https://osxdaily.com/2019/11/06/fix-iphone-11-not-showing-syncing-itunes-mac/

Thank you to both reply-ers for helping solve the issue, so I have again successfully backed up the phone. Thank you! Thank you!
