Random capitalization when dictating

Ever since the latest software update, my iPhone is inserting random capital letters while dictating, often when all I do is take a breath to keep speaking. It is also throwing in extra spaces between the last word and the next word. Turning off capitalization is amazingly annoying, But it didn't solve the problem. I really wish y'all would quit messing around with dictation because every time you push an update it messes it up worse! (BTW, the capitalized but above that is incorrect is an example of what it's doing. Notice the extra space as well as the capital letter that doesn't belong there.)

Is there a way to get it to quit randomly capitalizing words? I'm an English professor by training, and this makes me look like an idiot if I don't catch it, and takes way longer to edit text messages than it should when I do.

With all due respect, these units are far too expensive to have these kind of problems so routinely.

Yes I absolutely have noticed that and sometimes it randomly includes a word twice. Sometimes it'll go back and fix it, but usually the word is just in the paragraph twice.

Apple are you listening at all? It's ridiculous that these problems have persisted for going toward two years now… Starting to consider going back to android. It's annoying!

I know what you mean, it’s infuriating. And often when you say “full stop“ (same as “period“ – I’m British!) It immediately inserts two paragraph breaks, what’s that about?! (I left in the capital ‘I’ above as it is a perfect example of the problem!). It’s just astonishing that Apple, with all its resources, isn’t doing anything about this.

And there’s another double paragraph break ….!

Me too, and it's not just the iOS version. I have similar problems on OS X Ventura. It's absolutely maddening I quite agree that every time they update something they make dictation worse. I've got nearly every option in settings for dictation set to off in the hope that something might affect it. Nope.

I've also noticed that dictation badly affects cursor options. Example: in the Gmail app on iOS 90% of the time when I have dictation on I cannot move the cursor to the beginning of a word to remove the uppercase letter that the **** thing has put in where it wasn't wanted or needed. I have to tap on the microphone button and switch dictation off to be able to have free range with the cursor.

Dictation used to be a real timesaver but now it's taking me longer as I have to go through my text and correct all the errors that dictation introduced. Not good, Apple.

I can never make up my mind if it's incompetence or deliberate. Quite often the developers are too smart for their own good and think to "help" us by adding function ability. I'm thinking of things like assuming a pause means that you are starting a new sentence. No. I'm just breathing.
