iCloud Mac Backup upload stuck, are there any log files?

I am trying to backup two Macs to iCloud backup but the upload process is hanging.

One Mac says it has 10 items remaining and has uploaded (in that particular session) 3.13 of 3.32GB. The second Mac says it has 20 items to upload, of 443.3MB in size, but this hangs very early on, at around 17MB.

Downloading seems to be OK, and it's uploaded a lot more data (several hundred GB) in the past few days.

Is there any log file anywhere which might suggest what's going on? I wonder if there is some corrupt file which cannot be copied but isn't raising an error (my mind goes back to when Time Machine couldn't complete a backup due to certain files).

If I could easily see what's left to copy it would help narrow down any problems. I don't believe my network/Internet connection is at fault as everything else is working fine.

Mac mini, macOS 14.1

How on earth did you get to level 9 leaving answers like this?

I didn't ask for a pedantic response to my question, or solutions for backing up (which I already have in place, not that you'd know as it's irrelevant to this question)

OK, technically it's not a "backup" in the true, clone sense of the word. Shall I call it "sync" to keep you happy, even though Apple calls it backup?

I had already suggested that perhaps there was a corrupted file, which is why I asked about a log file in order to attempt to narrow down the issue.

"ensure that the file type is allowed (it's not recommended to sync certain file types)"

Allowed and recommended are not the same and the link you provide makes no mention of allowable/recommended file types. In fact I have not seen any mention except not to include files from other cloud services (which I haven't).

Could you stick to answering my actual question, or if you don't have a solution or any helpful idea, refrain from posting at all.

Mac don't backup to iCloud. Macs can be backed up with Time Machine (or similar) to external drives.

If you're having issues syncing files, ensure that the file type is allowed (it's not recommended to sync certain file types) Access and manage your files in iCloud Drive - Apple Support. You may also wish to ensure that your file is not a lock file, corrupted, or too large.

You can easily see the cloud status of your files in Finder. Right-click on the column headings to reveal cloud status.
