icloud sync in seemingly endless loop after Sonoma update

Hi

after just updating my Mac to Sonoma, im trying to do a Time Machine backup, however it wont let me until iCloud drive has finished syncing, however it seems to be in an endless cycle of upload/download!

As far as im aware there should be nothing new that it should be uploading or download. The upload/download in this images will complete/disappear and other will just take its place

Ive restarted, but it still does the same. Is there a way to snap it out of this cycle or do I just need to wait it out?

thanks for any help!

Nick

This appears to be a temporary condition. It looks like Sonoma might be updating the file attributes for everything that is synced via iCloud, and if there is a lot this can take a very long time. Mine ran overnight but was done by the next day.

If you are a little bit technical, you can watch this process by installing an application called fswatch and running it.

Via homebrew, it can be installed like this:

brew install fswatch

and then you can run it with:

fswatch --event-flags ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/

Once it is done (again many, many hours later, most likely) then it will stop constantly printing new lines to the screen. You can use Control-C to exit the application at any time.

Hope this helps!
