After my upgrade to Monterey 12.7.1 my 2015 macbook pro keeps freezing

After my upgrade to Monterey 12.7.1 my 2015 macbook pro keeps freezing with the spinning wheel of death replacing the pointer icon. I have to shut down the computer to get it back up and running. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

It seems to happen while I am online via Chrome. I have been visiting both Facebook and Instagram a lot lately. Not sure if this may have anything to do with the problem, but it is really annoying...

About Twirling Ball:

When this occurs, your Mac's lost of processes are occurring in the background. So, perform the following...

Troubleshooting Lagging Mac:

A. Try Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user

B. See if your Hard drive is Failing:

What to Try:

  1. Boot: into Recovery ModeGo Here:  How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac- Apple Support
  2. Select: Disk Utility
  3. Select: the Drive
  4. Click: First Aid button

C. Remove Login Items:

While in Safe Mode, remove all of your Login Items, and then restart the Mac.  Go Here: Change Users & Groups Login Items Preferences on Mac - Apple Support

D. RAM Consumption being the Culprit::

As for the beachball, it is telling you that an application or file or sorts is at work. Likely. this app is consuming lost of RAM. So, view the Activity Monitorseeing what is consuming the most of it, and close whatever it may be. "[...]In you instructions to help me you say in Option B - That I should check to see if my hard drive is failing. But to do it, you say I should startup my computer in "recovery mode". I don't know how to do that. Could you tell me how I startup my laptop in "recovery mode"?"

-------

Recovery Mode:

A. How to Boot in Recovery Mode:

It's a matter of holding down keys and buttons. And as for determine which keys and button to hold dow, that al all depends on your processor type.

B. How to Find your Processor-Type:

If it is Intel, it will say "Intel". If it is Silicon, the name will have either of these three: "M1", "M2", OR, "M3"

  1. Click: Apple menu (top-left corner, by default)
  2. Select: About This Mac
  3. View: Chip

-------

Troubleshooting Internal Speakers:

A. Is there a Speaker Even Seen?:

To Find Out:

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: About this Mac
  3. Click: System Report... button
  4. View: Hardware on left-column
  5. Click: Audio
  6. Verify: MacBook Pro Speakers is seen

If not Seen...

Either:

  • (A.) it is a hardware error

or

  • (B.) the drivers when missing (somehow)

So, Where to go from here...

So, rather than spending a whole boat load on getting new Mac, see if you can get the drivers reinstalled by reinstalling the macOS(backing up first).

How to Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that misplaced items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple Support. Use the third bulleted method: [command + r].  Important: Prior to installing an update or performing a reinstallation, to prevent data loss, be sure to Back up your Mac with Time Machine.
