Photos not loading any assets/pictures in IOS 17.1.1

Since updating to IOS 17, I am no longer able to connect my iPhone 14 Pro to my iMac and load my latest photos/videos into Photos. After connecting to the iMac with the USB cable, Photos opens up and nothing happens, I do not see any assets loading (0 of 0) and no thumbnail previews are displayed so I can import. I have tried 4 different mac computers with Mojave to Monterey OS. Some of the macs cannot be updated the the latest OS for work and app compatibility reasons. In many many years I have never had an issue loading pictures to my Photos library and after this update it seems to not work. I do not use iCloud and the setting is off to upload to iCloud. I tried in safe mode, I reset my iPhone Location and Privacy, different cables, let it sit for 10 hours,I even tried another iPhone 14 Pro running IOS 17 and it has the same issue. Any help would be appreciated!

While trying to download thanksgiving pics from iPhone 13 running IOS 17.1.1 to a MacBook Pro running Mojave, I just discovered I’m having the exact same problem! It’s worked perfectly in the past, but since the phone self-updated to 17.1.1, importing pics no longer works. I’ve tried rebooting both devices. What gives?! this is going to be a big problem if i cant get a solution, as my laptop is too old to support AirDrop
