International warranty will work on japanies iphone in India?

I’m in Japan right now and want to purchase Iphone but I will travel back to India in couple of weeks, so the warranty can be claimed in India as well in case of manufacturing faults correct? Since you mention international warranty!!!

"There is NO such thing as International Warranty on iPhone"

See this Apple document, which was provided to me by the local Apple Store.

https://store.apple.com/Catalog/Images/worldwidewarranty.html

However, it was of little value for a friend who purchased a phone in Texas, but needed service in Mexico City. Seems that the "fine print" implies that it is up to the local servicer to decide how they want to handle things.

I'm heading to the Apple Store later today to help follow up for my friend, so if you are sure that "There is NO such thing as an International Warranty on iPhone", I'll ask the store manager about the document that he gave me.

And see this, which, I believe is more applicable and contains the following --> Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty

"Apple may restrict warranty service for hardware products to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device."

Apple has denied warranty service on iPhone when it was purchased in one country, but used in another country. And that is because there are regional differences in iPhone and what is sold in one country cannot always be replaced in another country.

The above language and link has been the norm for some time and likely will remain the norm.

I believe products like MacBooks and computers are not sold regionally and the warranty is applicable regardless of location. But for products like iPhone and Apple Watch, they are sold regionally and the warranty is applicable mostly to the country of purchase.

There is NO such thing as International Warranty on iPhone. iPhone is sold regionally and India in particular is known for rejecting warranty OR service claims on phones purchased in other countries.

It is NEVER a good idea to purchase your iPhone in a country you don't live and will use it. If by chance it may cost less in Japan, ANY savings you may see will be wiped away and then some if you need to physically bring the phone back to Japan for replacement or warranty support.

I know it may say that, but its confusing, to say the least. From years of experience, we've seen too many times someone complain they bought their iPhone, for example in the US, yet were denied warranty or replacement in a different country. And this is VERY prevalent in India.

Perhaps my words "there is no such thing as International Warranty for iPhone," should be amended. But it's been my experience this is in fact the case with iPhone. And most other senior members of the forum, whom I admire, like Lawrence Finch and stedman1, among others, also typically say the same.

As long as we tell someone who may want to buy their iPhone in Malaysia, when they live in India, they may be denied warranty support, we're doing the right thing. Because they likely will be denied warranty support in India, on an iPhone purchased in Malaysia. If they then still decided to make the purchase in another country, they can't come back and complain that we didn't give them sage advice.

Thanks, I am familiar with the Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty. You posted the warranty for the Apple Watch. Do you have the iPhone version handy?

The Worldwide Warranty is on Apple's site as well. Have to wonder why.

Have a read through. It implies that any "portable" device is covered WorldWide.

Yes, my friend has no hope of recovering the cost to replace a screen on his iPhone, so Apple wins. They usually do. I expect the store manager will be "very busy" when I ask to speak with him later today, but a promise to a friend is a promise.

Hopefully, the OP will choose not to buy a phone in Japan if he ever requires service in India.

The fine print in the International Warranty document mentions details like.......

"Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested".

So, if a service center is not willing to perform repairs or offer service under the warranty, the user will have to pay for repairs, if they are available.

The bottom line.....it would be wise to purchase the phone in the country in which you will be spending most of your time.
