Volume control settings reset every few hours, need help!

I have an Apple TV 4k 1st gen and it is running the latest software.

I control volume on my Apple TV with the "Receiver via IR" setting.

Every few hours, maybe after the Apple TV wakes from sleep, the volume control on the Apple TV remote starts controlling the TV volume via IR and does not control the volume on my receiver as it should.

To resolve this issue, I have to go into Settings, and then into 'Remotes and Devices'. Just going into this menu without changing anything fixes the issue.

When I have the problem and I go into the 'Remotes and Devices' menu and in that menu, even though the Apple TV was controlling volume on my TV, the menu is still set to 'Receiver via IR'.

Just entering the menu instantly resolve the issue so that the Apple TV remote controls the volume on the receiver instead of the TV.

I've tried rebooting the Apple TV but the issue still occurs several times a day.

Update

I did a full factory reset on my Apple TV, made sure I was on the latest tvOS and the problem is still there.

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some basics:

By saying you reboot your Apple TV, did you mean you restarted it? Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Turn Apple TV on or off
While we see you have tvOS 17 installed, the latest version is tvOS 17.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to update: Update your Apple TV
When did this start to occur?

Hi Bruno75,

Thanks for your response. Here are my updates:

I've tried restarting from the system menu, holding down the TV button to get to the menu to power off, and unplugging the unit
I've updated to 17.1 and verified that the issue still happens, but now with one change. With tVOS 17 when the issue happened where it would control the TV volume instead of receiver volume, it would be resolved simply by entering the 'Remotes and Devices' menu and the volume setting on that menu would remain as 'Receiver via IR'. With 17.1, now when the issue happens and I go to the 'Remotes and Devices' menu and the volume setting is changed to 'TV via IR'. When I set it back to 'Receiver via IR' it controls the receiver fine, but it will revert back to 'TV via IR' after the next reboot or sleep cycle on the Apple TV.
I suspect this started to happen with tvOS 17. I bought this unit new years ago and it has worked perfectly until recently.
