Music doesn't count last track played

Question

Music doesn't count last track played

Music for Mac is not updating the play count or the last played date of the last song of an album or a playlist.

This issue was noticed in Ventura and reported to Apple, but no solution has been developed and the problem still persists in Sonoma.

Does anybody have any idea of what to try to solve this problem on our own (users)?

Hi cristianfromoviedo,

We want to ensure the appropriate settings are enabled for your play counts to be added on your Mac, when you play music on your other devices.

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Sharing on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click the Info button next to Media Sharing.
Select the Home Sharing checkbox.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Turn On Home Sharing.
Select "Devices update play counts"

As mentioned in Set up media sharing on Mac would need to be enabled if you want to update play counts (the number of times an item has been played) when the items are played on other computers in your Home Sharing network, or on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Thank you for your instructions.

I can confirm that the media sharing is active and devices update correctly the play count.

Actually, all other devices update correctly the play count. It is only the Mac itself the one that does not update the play count of the last track of an album. The problem is only with the last track of an album.

Thanks to another user who shared a link, I have finally been able to contact Apple (a real person) and I'm now waiting for their answer about this problem.
